Great peonies are worth waiting for!
A cool spring but these flowers are looking better than ever
Thank goodness that peonies are flowers that don’t need too much heat because they haven’t had much. I have examined every single plant in our fields while picking off extra buds to ensure we won’t be over harvesting on any of the plants. Their vigor and growth are obvious. Fertilizer and compost have worked some magic. Some of the varieties planted only in 2017 are looking just like the ones that came with the place. These are white varieties, so although we can’t be greedy, we will have more whites than last year to pick and sell. Looks like we will be harvesting about two weeks later than last year unless we get a MAJOR heatwave very soon. But they’ll be worth the wait!
Meanwhile we have a beautiful butterfly come into our hoop house to visit a variety of new perennials. And possibly four new Killdeer may be flying around the fields before we know it. I don’t blame them, this farm is a wonderful place to hang around.

We had a good year! We would like to thank all of our harvest helpers, Sara, Jessica, Ethan, Larry, Janet and of course our Numero Uno, Jesus!

Denise and I arrived at 3 on Wednesday, 10/4/17. The weather was clear and the air was crisp and it felt wonderful. At 4, UPS showed up with a big smile and 500 tulips.
All these buds will be beautiful peonies one of these days. The weather here has been cool and windy so things seem to be moving slowly.
We will continue laying down the last of the weed barrier cloth and try to keep up with the constant march of the ever growing weeds.
